About the position

The Database Manager at the University of California Office of the President will lead a team of database professionals to manage and support critical enterprise applications hosted on AWS. This role involves overseeing database performance tuning, integration, and operational support, while ensuring adherence to security protocols and service standards. The manager will collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance database services and drive strategic improvements in performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Manages work quality and deliverables for all components of the team's portfolio of services, ensuring standards and SLAs are met.
• Facilitates and coordinates regular discussions with peers and business partners to set expectations and work priorities.
• Provides direct supervision of the technical team, setting goals and expectations while mentoring staff to grow their competencies.
• Creates portfolio roadmaps and ensures services are secured and up-to-date with current software versions.
• Oversees and manages software licenses and maintenance contracts required to support database services.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of experience managing enterprise database platforms (Oracle, MySQL, DB2, MSSQL).
• At least 5 years of experience managing an IT operational support team providing 24x7 support.
• Minimum 2 years of experience managing infrastructure lead IT projects (database migrations).
• Strong ability to gather, organize, and analyze KPIs and metrics to improve processes and service levels.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical topics effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Minimum 2 years of experience managing cloud-based or cloud-hosted database services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
