About the position

The Database Manager will oversee data collection and system administration activities for New York State's cancer prevention and control programs. This role involves providing technical assistance, training, and support to contractors and Department of Health staff, ensuring data quality and compliance with health equity goals. The incumbent will also supervise staff and collaborate with database vendors to maintain and enhance data systems.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor data collection and perform system administration activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance for databases used by cancer prevention and control programs.
  • Oversee training and technical support for contractors and Department of Health staff regarding data collection and entry.
  • Develop and administer training sessions and guidance documents.
  • Respond to technical assistance requests and generate data quality assurance reports.
  • Work with contracted database vendors to facilitate and document database maintenance and changes.
  • Ensure data reporting needs are met in accordance with evolving screening guidelines and program goals.
  • Supervise staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of database management experience; OR an Associate's degree and five years of experience; OR seven years of experience; OR a Master's degree may substitute for one year of experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in public health, statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience using health system client/patient databases.
  • Experience developing and providing trainings and technical assistance.
  • Experience working with varied groups of partners.
  • Experience working with contracted entities or vendors.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to evaluate health programs.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and statistical analysis software packages.
  • Familiarity with health care quality improvement concepts.
  • Knowledge of health equity and racial justice principles.
  • Experience analyzing data related to social determinants of health.
  • Supervisory experience.
