About the position

The Technology Manager for Database & Middleware Operations is responsible for the strategic direction and management of technology services within a Business Unit. This role involves leading teams to achieve operational excellence, managing technology staff, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality Middleware and Database solutions. The manager will oversee project metrics, financial planning, and employee development while promoting best practices in ITIL and technology processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a collective team of employees and strategic partner resources in AEP's infrastructure operations to achieve operational excellence across the enterprise.
  • Support infrastructure operations 24x7 including on call and major incidents.
  • Support Middleware and Database deployments, lifecycle, maintenance, and incident response for infrastructure assets for AEP.
  • Deliver industry best Middleware and Database solutions that enhance process consistency and productivity leveraging process standardization and automation.
  • Manage key operational and project metrics in support of KPI / SLA objectives in achieving business financial and delivery objectives.
  • Implement industry best practices for ITIL and oversee database and Middleware ITSM processes including Incident, Change, problem, and configuration management.
  • Provide financial leadership, including strategic forecasting and planning; establish and manage departmental O&M and capital budgets.
  • Provide training opportunities for employees to learn and share knowledge, strengthen skills, and deepen and broaden technical and professional capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field.
  • 8 or more years of technology experience; 4-6 years of direct supervision experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3+ years leading Database and Middleware Operations roles
  • Experience in leading technical projects and/or leading a team of engineers including co-sourcing teams
  • Experience across other infrastructure technologies
  • Experience in Utilities vertical
  • Experience in Cloud deployments (IaaS, PaaS)
