About the position

This is a hands-on position with the successful applicant ready and able to assist with time-sensitive project issues and customer escalations. The role will look for efficiencies to improve quality and opportunities to advance the team capability through automation and education. This role requires excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage many concurrent projects. The applicant will spend most of their time managing the day-to-day operations of the team, responding to the needs of the customer base on an as-needed basis. The tasks may concern routine database maintenance, rapid response to unexpected outages or availability issues, or identifying and managing projects to continuously improve the quality of service provided to our users. Top skills to be successful include leadership and people management, the ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment, and the ability to work calmly under pressure with customers. Additionally, effective communication of technical ideas verbally and in writing (including technical proposals, design specs, architecture diagrams, and presentations) is essential. The technical skills required for this position include expertise in Oracle Database, Oracle Grid Infrastructure, ASM & RAC, Oracle Goldengate, Dataguard, and Maximum Availability Architecture best practices, as well as experience with Oracle Cloud and Exadata Cloud Service (ExaCS) and Oracle Autonomous Database (ADB). Knowledge of Oracle Data Management, including partitioning and compression, is also necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team maintaining and/or implementing software project(s) and/or internal systems.
  • Defines, documents and manages scope, expectations, implementation approach, deliverables and acceptance testing criteria.
  • Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements.
  • Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers.
  • May interact with senior management.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of several applications within a business area needed.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive leadership of Oracle Database administration teams
  • 8+ years of experience as Oracle DBA
  • Bachelor's degree/master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Software, or Computer System Engineering
  • Managing production databases running on LINUX flavors
  • Experience with production operations and best practices for change management and escalation procedures
  • Understanding of the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of Oracle database systems.
