About the position

The Database Operations Manager at Novia Infotech LLC is responsible for overseeing the database operations team, ensuring the availability and performance of SQL Server, Sybase, and Oracle databases in a production environment. This role involves managing both onshore and offshore team members, coordinating support during high-severity incidents, and driving operational maturity. The manager will also be accountable for incident reporting, crisis management, and continuous improvement initiatives within the database operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure team availability for L1 and L2 support for SQL, Sybase, and Oracle databases
• Coordinate support during high severity incidents to restore service in a timely manner
• Monitor, prioritize, and track issues until resolved
• Coordinate hand-offs between onshore and offshore teams
• Compile and provide updates to stakeholders on outages and availability, including metrics and performance against defined service level objectives
• Coordinate with L3 and L4 resources when escalation is required
• Lead incident reporting and facilitate participation in postmortems
• Resolve issues with scheduled database maintenance
• Execute planned database code releases from application teams
• Schedule, coordinate, and install required database patches and updates
• Participate in and support new store grand openings
• Identify automation opportunities and partner with engineering teams to implement
• Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
• Accountable for team's use and adherence to the CarMax processes
• Seek opportunities to increase customer satisfaction
• Manage crisis situations using analytical and organizational skills
• Coordinate knowledge sharing within the team and eliminate siloed areas of expertise
• Drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience supporting Database operations in an enterprise production environment for SQL Server, Sybase, and Oracle (must have at least two of the three)
• 3-5 years of leadership experience managing a database operations team preferred
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum setting
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
