The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies is seeking a Database Programmer/Administrator to provide essential bioinformatics support for our government customer in Silver Spring, MD. This role involves a variety of responsibilities that bridge the gap between IT and medical research staff, ensuring that information management programs, projects, and systems are effectively managed. The successful candidate will be tasked with designing, developing, testing, and documenting software, hardware, and interface requirements, as well as enhancing existing systems that handle genotypic, phenotypic, epidemiological, and demographic data. In this position, you will collaborate closely with personnel from the Medical Research Support Network (MRSN) to accomplish assignments that are determined by the developmental stages of each pipeline. A key responsibility will be assisting in the development of the MRSN Integrated Genome Handling Tool (MIGHT), a custom software package designed to automate the execution of various bioinformatic core analysis tools. You will also be involved in creating custom Python scripts for the rapid analysis of bacterial genomes, which includes tasks such as quality control, species identification, typing, cluster detection, and the prediction of resistance and virulence genes. Additionally, you will establish custom scripts and provide ad-hoc access to electronic data systems like the Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and GENESIS, aimed at improving automated solutions for data processing. Your role will also encompass supporting the implementation and maintenance of a centralized genome and genomic data repository, designed for ease of access by MRSN personnel and relevant partners. Furthermore, you will develop a custom NoSQL, document-oriented database for storing and querying genetic information derived from bacterial genome analyses, ensuring its integration with the MIGHT analytics workflow and clinical metadata in the ARMOR-D database.
