About the position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is looking for a Database Specialist 2 to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Under the supervision of a data processing manager, incumbents perform the full range of activities required to support agency databases which Database Management System (DBMS) software may reside on database servers. These activities include installing the DBMS and related systems software; designing, implementing, and maintaining databases; defining, storing, and securing data in the DBMS; optimizing performance of the DBMS; analyzing problems; providing technical consultation to agencies; determining long-term requirements; and developing operational guidelines, and generating reports and interfaces data. Positions in this class series are responsible for maintaining the integrity, availability, security, and efficiency of resident databases. They must also resolve complex and often conflicting agency requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Install the DBMS and related systems software.
  • Design, implement, and maintain databases.
  • Define, store, and secure data in the DBMS.
  • Optimize performance of the DBMS.
  • Analyze problems and provide technical consultation to agencies.
  • Determine long-term requirements and develop operational guidelines.
  • Generate reports and interface data.

Requirements

  • One year of database management systems experience at a level equivalent to a Database Specialist 1 for the State of Alaska.
  • Knowledge of computer languages and their applications.
  • Knowledge of procedures for developing technical and operational support documentation.
  • Knowledge of the architecture and typology of software, hardware, and networks.
  • Ability to encourage and facilitate teamwork.
