About the position

The Database Specialist position at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is primarily responsible for managing the child fatality database, specifically the National Fatality Review Case Reporting System (NFR-CRS). This role involves collaboration with various state and local entities to ensure effective data collection and analysis aimed at preventing child fatalities. The specialist will oversee the implementation of the NFR-CRS, provide training to local teams, and ensure the quality and completeness of data collection, while also responding to stakeholder inquiries and developing protocols for data usage.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the child fatality database and the National Fatality Review Case Reporting System (NFR-CRS).
  • Collaborate with various entities to ensure data-informed efforts to prevent child fatalities.
  • Implement the National Fatality Review Child Death Reporting System for state and local teams.
  • Develop and administer training for local teams on the NFR-CRS.
  • Monitor data input and assure quality and completeness of data collection.
  • Assist in data analysis and create visualizations for publications and communication.
  • Respond to stakeholder requests and develop protocols for effective data system use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of related experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Experience with statistical programs such as Excel, SAS, or SPSS.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public health data management.
  • Familiarity with child fatality review processes.
