About the position

The Police Department Database Systems Manager will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing the Records Management System (RMS) and other Police Department databases to ensure they meet CJIS security requirements. This role involves coordinating with IT and software vendors to install, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain CJIS-compliant database systems such as SQL Server and MySQL. The manager will ensure that databases comply with CJIS security policies and procedures, monitor database performance, and collaborate with IT and software vendors to implement necessary changes, patches, and updates. In addition to database management, the position requires programming skills to work with software vendors in developing and maintaining scripts and stored procedures that automate routine tasks and support database operations. The manager will also collaborate with development teams to integrate database functionality with applications and troubleshoot any database-related issues with vendor support. A comprehensive database maintenance plan tailored to CJIS requirements will need to be developed, implemented, and maintained, including scheduling regular backups and establishing recovery procedures. Security management is a critical aspect of this role, as the manager will oversee user access and permissions in accordance with CJIS policies, conduct regular security audits, and ensure ongoing compliance. Documentation and reporting are also essential functions, requiring the maintenance of detailed records of database configurations and processes, as well as generating performance reports and usage statistics. The manager will provide technical support and guidance to police systems end-users and collaborate with IT and development teams on various projects and initiatives. The position demands a proactive approach to evaluating and recommending tools and platforms that enhance data integration and analysis capabilities within the Police Department. The manager will also ensure that police personnel have 24/7 access to all required database application resources, which may involve responding to critical issues after hours, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and optimize the Records Management System (RMS) and other Police Department databases.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain CJIS-compliant database systems (SQL Server, MySQL, etc.).
  • Ensure databases comply with CJIS security policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular security audits and assessments for compliance.

  • Evaluate and recommend tools and platforms for data integration and analysis capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer information systems, computer science, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of related work experience, including training and experience with ESRI products (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS online).
  • Experience in developing and implementing police records maintenance plans.
  • Experience with cloud database solutions (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) that meet CJIS compliance.
  • Experience as a RMS Administrator with a focus on CJIS-compliant systems.
  • Strong knowledge of database administration best practices and security protocols.
  • Proficient in programming languages (SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, SSRS, Python).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
