About the position

The Data Center Technician is an entry-level IT position responsible for monitoring and maintaining data center operations. This role involves preparing, staging, and performing startups and shutdowns of equipment, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and deployment standards. The technician will also assist in hardware upgrades and decommissioning tasks, while effectively communicating incidents to senior technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the system for equipment failure or errors in performance
  • Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems or terminating the program
  • Help programmers and systems analysts test and debug new programs
  • Operate spreadsheet programs and other types of software to load and manipulate data and to produce reports
  • Prepare, stage, set up, and perform startups and shutdowns of data center equipment according to specific instructions and protocols
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting following standard procedures
  • Decommission hardware for simple changes and refreshes following standard procedures
  • Communicate, report, and escalate incidents to appropriate Datacenter Technician Leads

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware, servers, and components
  • 1+ year(s) experience supporting IT equipment or related technology
  • Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Flexibility to work non-standard business hours that may include weekends and/or holidays
