About the position

Arthur Grand Technologies is currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Datacenter Technician for one of our clients located in New Albany, OH. This position is primarily focused on hands-on tasks related to fiber optics and data center operations. The Fiber Technician will be responsible for a variety of duties including cabling and termination, testing, and splicing of fiber optic cables. The role requires a strong understanding of both copper and fiber termination skills, as well as the ability to mount and install racks, patch panels, and other hardware necessary for data center operations. The Fiber Technician will also be tasked with performing continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring that all installations meet the required standards. In addition to technical skills, the Fiber Technician must demonstrate a positive and professional attitude, promoting the company culture and mission to all stakeholders. The role involves physical demands such as working at heights, lifting heavy equipment, and working in confined spaces. The technician will also need to possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with team members and clients. This position is a contract role, offering a competitive hourly wage starting at $23.00, and requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent, along with relevant experience in fiber optics and data center environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform cabling and termination of fiber optic and copper cables.
  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, and other hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required.
  • Conduct testing including continuity tests and troubleshooting using volt-ohmmeter and tone set.
  • Install various types of connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords and breakout outside plant fiber.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Test using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO, and troubleshoot network issues end to end.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 3-5 years of experience in fiber optics preferred.
  • Proficient in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems.
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting MMF and SMF systems using OTDR and PMLS.
  • Proficient with tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, and cable strippers.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds and moving up to 75 pounds.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Industry certifications (Corning/FOA) preferred.
  • Data center installation experience preferred.
  • Mechanical and fusion splice experience preferred.
  • OSP / Confined Space Entry experience preferred.
