The Data Center Technician at Runops is responsible for a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic systems within a data center environment. This role requires a hands-on approach to cabling and termination, where the technician will mount and install racks, patch panels, and various hardware components. The technician will also be responsible for installing grounding for racks, equipment, and cables as required. A significant part of the job involves performing testing procedures, including continuity tests on horizontal and riser cables, utilizing a volt-ohmmeter, and troubleshooting issues such as opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs on cables. The technician will work with various types of connectors, including LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP, for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber optics. In addition to installation and testing, the technician will be tasked with terminating simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as breaking out outside plant fiber. The role also includes the installation of fan-out kits and calculating end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for both multimode and single-mode fiber. Accurate completion of paperwork, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders, is essential to ensure smooth operations. The technician will also be expected to complete any other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the data center operations. The position requires a self-motivated individual who can promote the company culture and mission while interacting with employees, vendors, clients, and business partners. Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills are necessary, along with the ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and oral presentations. The technician must be comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting weights up to 50 pounds, with the ability to move up to 75 pounds. Visual acuity to distinguish colors and read small print, as well as auditory skills to recognize audible signals, are also required.
