About the position

The Data Center Technician at Raas Infotek is responsible for the installation, testing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems within a data center environment. This role involves hands-on work with cabling, termination, and splicing of fiber optics, as well as troubleshooting and providing onsite support. The technician will ensure that all work is completed accurately and in compliance with industry standards, while also promoting the company's culture and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
  • Perform continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs.
  • Install various types of connectors for both multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as indoor and outdoor fiber.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets and work orders.
  • Provide onsite support after business hours as part of the on-call schedule.
  • Travel to various sites as needed for installation and support.
  • Test using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO; troubleshoot network-wide issues using OTDR.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient at terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems.
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting MMF and SMF systems using OTDR and PMLS.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Fiber preferred.
  • Industry Certifications (Corning/FOA/BICSI) preferred.
  • Data Center installation experience preferred.
  • Mechanical and Fusion Splice experience preferred.
  • OSP / Confined Space Entry experience preferred.
  • Ability to use various trade tools including screwdrivers, pliers, and cable strippers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mechanical and fusion splicing.
  • Industry certifications such as Corning, FOA, or BICSI.
  • Data Center installation experience.
  • Experience with OSP and confined space entry.
