About the position

The Data Center Technician will play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of the Data Center Services (DCS) group within a banking and financial environment. This position is primarily responsible for the planning, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of all server hardware and devices within the data center. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing the full life cycle of data center infrastructure projects, which includes planning customer server installations, cabling, and designing structured cable plant systems. Excellent customer service skills are essential, as the technician will be expected to report progress regularly and assist the DCS team with troubleshooting server, network, and storage systems. The work environment is fast-paced and deadline-oriented, requiring adaptability and a deep understanding of large-scale data center operations. The technician will be involved in various tasks such as racking and stacking servers, performing base configurations on servers, and ensuring proper labeling of cables. Strong cabling experience is a must, particularly with 5E/6E copper and fiber optics. Familiarity with UCS, Cisco, and DCIM tools like Sunbird is preferred, as well as knowledge of server blades. This position operates on a night shift schedule from Saturday to Wednesday, 12 AM to 8 AM EST (11 AM to 7 AM CST), and is expected to be onsite five days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities of the Data Center Services (DCS) group.
  • Plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain server hardware and devices.
  • Assist with troubleshooting server, network, and storage systems.
  • Perform racking and stacking of servers and devices.
  • Label cables appropriately and ensure proper cabling practices are followed.
  • Conduct base configurations on servers.
  • Provide excellent customer service and report progress regularly.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in managing the full life cycle of data center infrastructure projects.
  • Strong cabling experience with 5E/6E copper and fiber optics.
  • Experience working in large-scale data centers.
  • Knowledge of UCS (Unified Communication Service) and Cisco systems.
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools like Sunbird or similar.
