About the position

The Zumba/Dance Teacher at APluscare LLC is responsible for creating and leading engaging Zumba and dance fitness classes tailored for individuals with developmental disabilities. The role focuses on promoting physical health, coordination, social skills, and confidence through dance-inspired cardio workouts in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Promote healthy movement, exercise, and personal growth among Day Habilitation Individuals based on their needs and goals.
  • Prepare energizing Zumba/dance routines incorporating simple, repetitive Latin-inspired dance moves, squats, lunges, and other aerobic exercises.
  • Lead classes using cues, visual demonstration, and individual guidance to keep students engaged and actively participating.
  • Adapt choreography and pace to suit the ability levels of students.
  • Monitor students and provide modifications to exercises to account for physical limitations or health issues.
  • Promote a fun, celebratory atmosphere with upbeat music and positive reinforcement.
  • Collaborate with therapists and staff to track progress and set fitness goals for each student.
  • Maintain safe conditions and utilize assistants to help minimize injury risks.
  • Communicate with caregivers to share updates on participation and progress.
  • Stay up to date on new Zumba/dance techniques, music, and instructor training workshops.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience teaching dance, fitness, or movement.
  • 1 year or more of previous experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, or equivalent education is preferred.
  • Group fitness certification, Zumba/dance license, or equivalent training strongly preferred.
  • Ability to choreograph fun, simple routines combining dance and aerobic exercise.
  • Good verbal communication and cueing skills.
  • Reliable and passionate about bringing joy of movement to students.
  • Organizational skills to plan and coordinate programs and activities.
  • Flexibility to adjust teaching strategies based on individual progress and abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
