About the position

As a DB2 Database Manager at Worldpay, you will play a pivotal role in managing the DB2 mainframe z/OS database, overseeing a dedicated team of database administrators and engineers. Your primary responsibility will be to design, implement, and maintain the DB2 mainframe z/OS database, ensuring it aligns with the organization's strategic goals. You will be tasked with developing a strategic vision for the database, which includes aligning technology initiatives with business objectives. This leadership role requires you to inspire and guide your team, providing mentorship and support to foster their professional development. In addition to team management, you will oversee project management activities related to the DB2z database. This includes planning, execution, and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. You will also be responsible for designing and implementing scalable and secure database architectures, including deployment and automation solutions. Your role will involve collaborating with vendors and senior leaders to procure necessary hardware and software, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and security best practices. Monitoring database performance will be a critical aspect of your job, as you will analyze performance metrics and implement optimization measures to enhance efficiency and reliability. You will lead incident response efforts, troubleshooting complex database issues and coordinating with your team to resolve them promptly. Furthermore, you will provide training and development opportunities for your team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth. Effective communication with key stakeholders, including IT leadership and business executives, will be essential to keep them informed about database initiatives and gather feedback for service improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate a strategic vision for the organization's DB2 mainframe z/OS database.
  • Lead and manage a team of database administrators and engineers, providing guidance and support.

Requirements

  • Several years of experience in database administration, engineering, or related roles in a global organization.
  • Experience managing DB2 on mainframe z/OS, very large scale OLTP and analytical data structures.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Experience in team management, mentoring, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution.
  • In-depth knowledge of DB2 on mainframe z/OS, database design, development, and administration.
  • Hands-on experience with database architecture, design, monitoring, and implementation.
  • Experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for addressing complex technology challenges.
  • A strategic mindset to align technology initiatives with business goals.

Nice-to-haves

  • A bachelor's degree or greater in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Certifications in database technologies, particularly IBM Certified Administrator - DB2 12 for z/OS.
