About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with extensive experience in Microsoft SQL Server to join our dynamic team in Chicago. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of our database systems. This role requires a deep understanding of database architecture, performance tuning, and security best practices. You will work closely with application developers, system architects, and other stakeholders to ensure the integrity and availability of our data. As a Senior DBA, you will lead database projects, mentor junior DBAs, and provide technical guidance to the team. You will be responsible for developing and enforcing database policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Your expertise will be crucial in troubleshooting complex database issues and implementing solutions that enhance system performance and reliability. In addition to your technical skills, you will be expected to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members. You will play a key role in planning and executing database migrations, upgrades, and backups, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to business operations. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain MS SQL Server databases.
  • Optimize database performance through tuning and indexing strategies.
  • Ensure data integrity and security by implementing best practices.

  • Develop and enforce database policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues.
  • Plan and execute database migrations and upgrades.
  • Collaborate with application developers and system architects to support application development.
  • Monitor database performance and implement improvements as needed.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator, specifically with MS SQL Server.
  • Strong knowledge of database design, architecture, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with backup and recovery strategies.
  • Familiarity with database security practices and compliance standards.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience with database migration and upgrade processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL Database).
  • Knowledge of other database systems (e.g., Oracle, MySQL).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
