About the position

The DCNR Ranger Trainee position at the Promised Land State Park Complex is designed for individuals passionate about protecting natural resources and promoting environmental education. This role involves a comprehensive training program to develop skills necessary for public service, safety, and law enforcement within state parks. The trainee will engage with visitors, ensuring their safety and enjoyment while fostering responsible use of park resources.

Responsibilities

• Undergo a one-year formal and on-the-job training program.
• Act as a public service, safety, and law enforcement officer for the Promised Land State Park Complex.
• Safeguard park visitors, the environment, and facilities.
• Engage with the public to encourage responsible use of resources and amenities.
• Maintain confidentiality in certain tasks.

Requirements

• Completion of 15 college credits in natural or environmental sciences, natural resource management, park management, parks or outdoor recreation, forestry, environmental education, ecology, wildlife management, or a closely related field.
• Six months of experience providing visitor services in a public park, forest, recreation area, or a privately-owned nature or outdoor education center.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of employment.
• Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
• Successful completion of a structured law enforcement training program during the trainee period.
• Obtain valid certification in standard first aid and CPR during the trainee period.
• Pass psychological testing (MMPI) and background checks.
