About the position

The Early Childhood Education Bilingual Substitute Teacher at DCPS is responsible for providing classroom support to children aged 3 to 5. This role emphasizes engaging students through warm interactions, implementing active supervision strategies, and assisting with instructional activities. The position aims to promote children's language development, critical thinking, and early academic skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for kindergarten and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Engage students in warm and supportive interactions and conversations throughout the day.
  • Implement early childhood active supervision strategies at all times to ensure children's safety.
  • Support the teacher or education aide in implementing the daily lesson plan and schedule of activities.
  • Provide support to children during various instructional activities throughout the day.
  • Assist children with personal care and hygiene needs, including handwashing, diapering, and toilet training.
  • Facilitate family-style meals during lunchtime and engage children in conversations about healthy eating habits.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or 60 college credits.
  • 1-2 years of experience with children ages 3-5 in early childhood education.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Successful completion of a two-part interview with the DCPS Early Childhood Education Team.
