DDP (Demurrage & Detention) Clerk

About the position

The DDP (Demurrage & Detention) Clerk at MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is an entry-level position focused on tracking import vessels and managing container storage agreements. The role involves using proprietary tools to ensure accurate billing and resolving customer inquiries related to free time and contract disputes. This position offers an opportunity to gain industry knowledge in logistics and supply chain management while working in a diverse environment.

Responsibilities

• Tracks every import vessel calling US ports and the containers on the respective vessel using MSC proprietary tools.
• Identifies storage agreements per service contracts and confirms free time.
• Collects free time information, summarizes it, and calculates dates for terminals.
• Organizes files based on terminal format requirements.
• Sends summarized data and guarantees of payment to terminals.
• Responds to inquiries from customers and internal departments regarding free time to resolve contract disputes.
• Creates and updates free time records in MSC systems for accurate billing.
• Escalates unique or complex customer issues to the appropriate supervisor for resolution when necessary.
• Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
• Prior experience in supply chain, transportation, shipping, logistics, freight forwarding, customer service, call center, administrative or clerical jobs.
• Advanced English proficiency.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Organized, efficient, and able to manage time effectively.
• Strong customer service mindset, focused, and responsive.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Great team player.
• Knowledge of MS Excel with the ability to learn new software.
