About the position

Goodwill Northern New England is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Deaf Services LifeWorks Community Support Specialist on an on-call basis. This role is crucial in providing inclusive and empowering services to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community, aligning with our mission to improve the lives of individuals with disabilities. As a Community Support Specialist, you will support service recipients associated with Goodwill's Life Works Program, which focuses on personal growth and independence. This position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) to effectively communicate and support our clients. In this role, you will follow the service plan, providing hands-on support and direct teaching in various areas, including interpersonal skills, financial management, personal care and hygiene, activities of daily living, and access to community services and leisure opportunities. You will also be responsible for moderating verbal or emotional incidents using intervention techniques that preserve the dignity and safety of the service recipients. Completing all required documentation in accordance with program standards and maintaining all necessary certifications are essential duties of this position. As a representative of Goodwill, you will interact with other community members and the general public, supporting our vision of creating sustainable communities that thrive through the fullest participation of their diverse residents. This role also emphasizes our commitment to integrating social, economic, and environmental goals into our planning and actions, contributing to our triple bottom line results.

Responsibilities

  • Support service recipients associated with Goodwill's Life Works Program.
  • Follow the service plan and provide hands-on support and direct teaching in interpersonal skills, financial management, personal care and hygiene, activities of daily living, and access to community services and leisure opportunities.
  • Moderate verbal or emotional incidents through intervention techniques that preserve the dignity and safety of the service recipient(s).
  • Complete all required documentation following program standards.
  • Maintain all required certifications.
  • Represent the Agency in all interactions with other Goodwill community members and the general public.

Requirements

  • Evidence of High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license permitting operation of a vehicle in the State where employed; safe driving record.
  • Reliable transportation and automobile insurance that meets minimum state requirements.
  • A criminal background check that meets Agency and State standards.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to complete required certifications on time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities.
  • Mental Health Experience (when applicable).
  • Training relevant to the program (A. CRMA, B. First Aid / CPR, C. NAPPI, D. College of Direct Support).
