About the position

The Marion County Prosecutor's Office is seeking an experienced Deputy Prosecutor to handle cases related to Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death. This role is crucial in addressing the opioid crisis in Marion County, where a significant number of drug overdose deaths have occurred. The Deputy Prosecutor will work closely with law enforcement and community organizations to build cases against drug dealers and represent the State of Indiana in court.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the State of Indiana in all stages of criminal prosecution of cases in Marion County Courts.
  • Work closely with the joint IMPD/DEA Fatal Overdose Task Force.
  • Review complex digital/cellular forensics and electronic financial records.
  • Consult with the Marion County Coroner's Office regarding autopsy reports and toxicological analysis.
  • Review search warrants for digital and physical evidence.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Marion County Prosecutor's Office and families of victims.
  • Engage in community outreach to raise awareness about drug-related issues.
  • Identify and interview victims and witnesses.
  • Prepare and provide discovery to defense counsel.
  • Litigate evidentiary and non-evidentiary motions.
  • Review case files, applicable statutes, and case law to determine case resolutions.
  • Handle jury trials and court trials.
  • Communicate with local, State, and Federal law enforcement, court personnel, and defense counsel.
  • Attend trainings as directed.

Requirements

  • J.D. Degree from an accredited law school and a member in good standing of the Indiana bar.
  • Minimum of three years of major felony criminal trial experience.
  • Ability to independently manage a highly difficult caseload across nine major felony courts.
  • Previous jury trial experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to public service.
  • Strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Benefits

  • Salary starting at $76,500, commensurate with education or work experience.
