About the position

Fordham University seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as the inaugural dean of Arts and Sciences. This role is pivotal as the university implements a new leadership structure for the arts and sciences, providing the dean with authority and visibility across all academic programs. The dean will be responsible for strategic leadership, policy development, faculty and staff success, budgeting, and external relations to advance the priorities of Arts and Sciences. The position emphasizes a student-centered approach and the importance of liberal arts education within the Jesuit tradition, fostering an inclusive environment that values diversity, equity, and justice.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the chief academic and executive officer for all Arts and Sciences programs at Fordham University.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction across all academic programs in Arts and Sciences.
  • Develop and implement academic policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the success of faculty, staff, and students within the Arts and Sciences.
  • Manage budgeting and resource allocation for Arts and Sciences.
  • Engage in external relations and fundraising to support Arts and Sciences priorities.
  • Establish a vision for the future of Arts and Sciences in collaboration with various constituents.
  • Foster a collaborative culture among faculty and staff.
  • Advocate for the importance of liberal arts education and its role in advancing the human cause.
  • Promote diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion as core values within the academic environment.

Requirements

  • Hold a terminal degree and academic credentials suitable for the rank of full professor in a department within Arts and Sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience in academic administration and leading change.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with faculty and staff quickly.
  • Eagerness to embrace the Jesuit mission, identity, and values of the University.

  • Experience in fundraising and external relations.
