About the position

The Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at John Carroll University serves as the chief academic and administrative leader, responsible for shaping the college's vision and strategic direction. This role emphasizes fostering a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and student-centered engagement, while upholding Jesuit values. The Dean will lead a dedicated faculty and staff, manage academic programs, and represent the college externally, ensuring alignment with the university's mission and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and vision to advance the mission and values of the College and the University.
  • Lead academic innovation efforts, including developing new curricula and interdisciplinary opportunities.
  • Steward the human and financial resources of CAS to ensure alignment with the University's strategic priorities.
  • Manage the hiring, annual review, tenure, promotion, and professional development activities of CAS faculty.
  • Oversee the design, development, delivery, and assessment of the College's academic programs.
  • Inspire support for CAS's people and programs through active participation in fundraising efforts.
  • Represent CAS and the University externally to a broad range of constituents and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in a discipline relevant to the College of Arts and Sciences academic portfolio.
  • Tenured position at a higher education institution with teaching and scholarship credentials to qualify for Full Professor rank.
  • Record of progressively more responsible academic administrative and leadership positions.
  • Significant prior leadership experience within an academic unit in higher education.
