About the position

The Dean of Arts and Sciences at Walla Walla Community College is responsible for managing and leading the instructional area that encompasses various programs within the Division of Instruction. This role involves supervising faculty and staff, fostering collaboration across departments, and ensuring alignment with the institution's mission and strategic goals. The Dean will also engage with community partners and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance educational offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide transformative leadership and strategic direction for the Academic Transfer Area.
  • Supervise and manage programs including Arts and Humanities, Math and Education, Social Sciences, Physical, Life, and Sport Sciences, and Honors.
  • Build relationships with community partners to ensure collaboration and support for programs.
  • Implement a culture of continuous improvement based on feedback and data.
  • Develop and maintain the Area's mission, vision, and objectives in alignment with the institution's Strategic Plan.
  • Collaborate with other instructional areas to enhance educational offerings.
  • Manage, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all Area employees, including faculty and staff.
  • Prepare and administer the area's budget, overseeing expenditures and grants.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
  • Promote equity and diversity through instruction and programming.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Humanities, Math, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Computer Sciences, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Three years of experience in higher education leadership or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity issues.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience teaching in various modalities (in-person, online, hybrid).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and cloud-based platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctorate Degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of teaching experience in a higher education setting.
  • Bilingual, especially in Spanish/English.
  • Experience with higher education accreditation and program review.
  • Grant and budget management experience.
  • Experience with NWCCU, NACEP, and NC-SARA standards.
