About the position

The Dean of Liberal Arts, Communication, and Social Sciences at Sinclair Community College is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the division that offers a wide range of career and transfer associate degrees and certificates. This position focuses on promoting high-quality teaching and learning, fostering faculty development, and ensuring alignment of programs with the college's strategic priorities. The Dean will also engage with the community, manage budgets, and pursue external funding opportunities to enhance the division's offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Fosters and promotes high quality teaching and learning in accordance with Sinclair's Strategic Priorities of Alignment, Growth, and Equity.
  • Provides leadership for the continuing development of the LCS division's faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrates a proven record of active advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the promotion, retention, and tenure of faculty.
  • Develops and maintains an external and strategic focus in the community.
  • Assesses the appropriateness and effectiveness of divisional programs and structure.
  • Ensures curriculum and program alignment with the college across multiple sites, and within the region and State.
  • Collaborates with members of the division's leadership team and senior leadership of the college to ensure efficient and effective use of college resources.
  • Pursues external funding, including grants, contracts, and gifts, and oversees management of grants and related initiatives.
  • Oversees accreditation of various LCS programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a master's degree in a liberal arts discipline that qualifies a candidate to teach in the LCS Division is required; an earned doctorate in a liberal arts discipline is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in higher education required.
  • A minimum of two years of higher education experience should include administration of a complex office, department, or project with multiple direct reports.
  • Demonstrated leadership and support in driving alignment, growth, and equitable outcomes of student completion and success.
  • An understanding of and commitment to diversity and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Evidence of an inclusive leadership style that fosters team building and celebrates diversity.
  • Demonstrated experience in hiring, developing, and evaluating diverse faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience with college transfer, career and technical programs, dual credit programs, and in the assessment of learning outcomes preferably in a comprehensive community college.
  • Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, instructional technology, and a variety of learning methodologies.
  • Evidence of effective teaching in traditional and nontraditional delivery systems, preferably in a community college setting.
  • Demonstrated community outreach and effective promotion of disciplines within the community.
  • Experience with budget development and management.
  • Experience acquiring and leveraging external funding.
