Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Middle School Administrative PLC
  • Support student orientation in transition years: fifth to sixth grade and eighth to ninth grade
  • Implement, supervise and manage extracurricular and intramural programs at Alton Middle School
  • Regularly collect data on increased student participation, performance, and satisfaction
  • Assist with supervision of students at after school events as assigned by building administrator
  • Coordinate and host recognition ceremonies for students
  • Have programs printed for events as necessary
  • Recruit, hire and evaluate Physical Education Teachers and middle school coaches
  • Organize and provide professional development for PE Teachers and coaches
  • Develop middle school PE Curriculum including units of instruction aligned to athletic programs and standards
  • Partner with Alton and Godfrey Park and Rec programs to increase elementary participation
  • Organize and maintain Junior Redbird Nest
  • Expand and further develop IESA and SIJHSA athletic programming
  • Establish strong communication with parents through regular updates about games, practices, events and achievements
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during extracurricular activities
  • Maintain compliance with relevant rules, regulations, and safety guidelines
  • Develop and manage the budget for the athletic department, including purchasing equipment and uniforms
  • Organize Concessions
  • Manage scheduling of and compensation for officials through Arbiter
  • Maintain practice and game schedules through Schedule Star
  • Hire ticket takers for all applicable home athletic contests
  • Ensure that each event has logistical support: timers, scorers, supervisors, etc. and complete all necessary paperwork to ensure proper payment
  • Arrange for transportation to off-campus events, practices and away contests
  • Assist in the creation of a middle school athletic code of conduct/eligibility policy
  • Maintain website and social media platforms through Instagram, Facebook, and Parent Square
  • Assume leadership role with coaches and program facilitators
  • Participate on the Concussion Oversight Team and track Return to Learn timing
  • Develop AMS Emergency Action Plan
  • Monitor insurance, waivers, forms and physical records of all school athletes with the athletic secretary and school nurse
  • Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas and equipment, including theaters, playing fields and courts
  • Meet regularly with coaches and program facilitators to ensure that the Alton Philosophy permeates the entire athletic program
  • Work cooperatively with the High School Athletic Director to coordinate Middle School and High School activities
  • Ensure that each coach/facilitator has student expectations outlined in writing for distribution at the parent meeting
  • Facilitate community partnerships and organize sponsorships
  • Active participation with the Alton Athletic Association
  • Organize and host a fifth-grade field day that includes physical education teachers and coaches

Requirements

  • Administrative Endorsement Preferred
  • Previous experience as a coach preferred
  • Proficiency with Google Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Exemplary organizational skills
