About the position

The Dean of the College of the Sciences (COTS) at Central Washington University (CWU) is a leadership role responsible for overseeing academic programs, faculty, and student success within the college. The Dean will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to develop and implement strategic initiatives that enhance the college's mission and vision. This position requires a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and shared governance, as well as the ability to engage effectively with a diverse population of students and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for the College of the Sciences, ensuring academic excellence and student success.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement a shared vision and strategic initiatives for the college.
  • Manage budgetary and personnel resources, including faculty Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) processes.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including donors and grant agencies, to support the college's initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and diversity within the college and the broader university community.
  • Lead curriculum development, assessment, and program review efforts.
  • Oversee accreditation efforts and ensure compliance with state and national standards.

Requirements

  • Earned doctorate from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline.
  • Four years of leadership experience in academic settings or equivalent experience in the public or private sector.
  • A record of teaching effectiveness, professional leadership, and scholarship sufficient for tenure as a professor.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgetary and personnel resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and public speaking skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion and experience working with diverse populations.
  • Ability to engage external stakeholders effectively.

  • Experience with complex budget and management operations.
  • Leadership of strategic planning at the program level or above.
  • Experience in leading transformative change in higher education.
  • Experience with curriculum development and program review.
  • Successful record of community engagement and fundraising.
