About the position

The Decision Science Analyst I for Fraud at USAA plays a crucial role in providing decision support across the enterprise by applying mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze data and make actionable recommendations. This position involves gathering, manipulating, and synthesizing data to inform strategies that enhance fraud detection and prevention efforts. The analyst will work closely with various teams to monitor model performance, support model deployment, and ensure compliance with risk management policies.

Responsibilities

  • Apply creative analytical techniques to assess model implementation and monitor model performance across the model lifecycle.
  • Use programming languages such as SAS and Python for exploratory data analysis and automate analytical reporting.
  • Support the development and maintenance of model performance visualizations and dashboards using Tableau.
  • Produce Implementation Risk Review model documentation and support model implementation testing processes.
  • Facilitate model validations and deliver insights on model performance to users.
  • Maintain the code base for monitoring model performance and ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Create written reports on ongoing model performance for leadership.
  • Perform analytical reporting to track model value and health regarding loss mitigation and member experience.
  • Review automated code jobs for completeness and accuracy.
  • Conduct document and code reviews of teammates' work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field or 4 years of related experience in statistics, mathematics, or quantitative analytics.
  • 4 years of experience in data/analytics or functional business experience in the respective industry.
  • Proficiency in mathematical and statistical techniques for decision-making.
  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, and SQL, SAS, or BI tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • US military experience or a military spouse/domestic partner.
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative subject area.
  • 2+ years of experience with SQL, HiveQL, and NoSQL.
  • 2+ years of experience with SAS and Python for statistical programming.
  • 2+ years of experience using Tableau for data visualization and dashboards.
  • Experience in model validation and governance.
  • Experience working with fraud and financial crimes models.
