About the position

The Decision Science Analyst II at USAA plays a crucial role in providing decision support across various business areas by applying mathematical and statistical techniques. This position focuses on gathering, manipulating, and synthesizing data to draw conclusions and make actionable recommendations that align with business objectives, particularly in the context of fraud and financial crimes. The analyst will utilize programming languages and analytical software to monitor model performance, support model deployment, and create visualizations that aid leadership in assessing model risk and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Apply creative analytical techniques to assess model implementation and monitor model performance across the model lifecycle.
  • Use programming languages such as SAS and Python for exploratory data analysis and automate standard analytical reporting.
  • Support the development and maintenance of model performance visualizations and dashboards using Tableau.
  • Produce Implementation Risk Review model documentation and support model implementation testing processes.
  • Facilitate model validations and deliver insights on model performance to users.
  • Maintain the code base necessary for monitoring model performance and ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Create written reports on ongoing model performance for leadership.
  • Perform analytical reporting to track model value and health regarding loss mitigation and member experience.
  • Review automated code jobs for completeness and accuracy.
  • Craft and maintain performance dashboards for leadership.
  • Conduct document and code reviews of teammates' work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field or 4 years of related experience in statistics, mathematics, or quantitative analytics.
  • 2 years of experience in data/analytics or functional business experience in the respective industry.
  • Intermediate knowledge of mathematical and statistical techniques for decision-making.
  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, and SQL, SAS, BI tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • US military experience through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative subject area.
  • 1+ years of experience with SQL, HiveQL, and NoSQL.
  • 1+ years of experience with SAS and Python for statistical programming.
  • 1+ years of experience using Tableau for data visualization and dashboards.
  • Experience in model validation and governance.
  • Experience working with fraud and financial crimes models.
