About the position

The Deck Hand position at Pacific Seafood involves assisting with general farm operations, particularly in the planting, maintenance, and harvesting of clam and oyster beds. The role requires collaboration with the Dredge Boat Operator to ensure safe and efficient boat operations, as well as performing various tasks related to shellfish husbandry and farm equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general farm operations including planting, maintenance, and harvest of clam and oyster beds.
• Work directly with the Dredge Boat Operator to ensure safe and efficient operations.
• Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks on the dredge boat, including engine room checks and oil changes.
• Demonstrate knowledge of clam and oyster husbandry practices and maintain records of the beds.
• Take small crews in a skiff to perform planting and harvesting tasks as directed by the farm manager.
• Operate various farm equipment such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and farm boats.
• Work safely in inclement weather and adverse conditions on the tide beds and boats.
• Complete paperwork logs and maintain records as required.
• Maintain farm safety and comply with health and safety guidelines.
• Assist with farm organization and clean-up as directed.

Requirements

• A minimum of six months of related experience in construction, manufacturing, farming, or a related industry.
• Prior boat operator experience is required.

Nice-to-haves

• A valid driver's license is preferred.
• Boat operator's licenses are preferred.
