About the position

City Experiences is seeking a Deckhand in San Diego to join our dynamic marine team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals who are adaptable, eager to learn, and embody our RESPECT Service System. As a Deckhand, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests while maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the vessel. You will assist with docking and undocking procedures, participate in safety drills, and provide exceptional hospitality to our guests. Experience in this field is not required, as we will provide comprehensive training to help you succeed in your role. This position offers a unique opportunity to start a career in the maritime industry, where you will uphold the highest safety standards and maintain a professional demeanor at all times. You will be expected to work weekends and holidays as needed, and your commitment to teamwork and safety will be essential in creating amazing experiences for our guests.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with docking and undocking of the vessel.
  • Ensure guest comfort and safety while underway.
  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the vessel.
  • Follow safety procedures to protect passengers, crew, and the vessel.
  • Participate in routine safety and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Welcome guests on the vessel with exceptional customer service.
  • Handle lines to moor vessels to the pier.
  • Stand lookout watch to identify obstructions in the ship's path.
  • Assist with general maintenance on the vessel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of all common areas.
  • Load or unload materials such as trash from the vessel.
  • Provide exceptional hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in our RESPECT Service System.
  • Be prepared to begin work at the scheduled time.
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Captain or First Mate.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pre-employment and ongoing random drug testing are required for all marine personnel.
  • Ability to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers.
  • Strong focus on safety and teamwork while actively looking for ways to help others.
  • Ability to work for extended periods without sitting.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and move heavy items up and down stairs.
  • Ability to throw mooring lines from ship to pier.
  • Normal color vision to interpret navigational lights and color-sensitive systems.
  • Receptive to working nights, weekends, and major holidays.
  • Must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident as per US Coast Guard regulations.
