About the position

The Deli Clerk position at Cosentino's Price Chopper is designed to assist customers in their shopping experience by providing high-quality deli products and delivering courteous, efficient service. The Deli Clerk will be responsible for preparing, packaging, and labeling deli products accurately and efficiently, while also maintaining cleanliness and organization in the deli area. This position requires a strong commitment to customer service and adherence to health and safety regulations. The Deli Clerk will report directly to the Deli Manager and is classified as a non-exempt position. Essential knowledge for this role includes obtaining a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment and completing ongoing training as outlined in the Cosentino's Learning Plan. While a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, it is not mandatory. The Deli Clerk must possess basic math skills and be able to communicate effectively with customers and team members. In addition to food preparation, the Deli Clerk will be responsible for inventory management, ensuring that products are rotated properly, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The role also involves resolving customer complaints professionally and promoting department sales through product suggestions and visually appealing displays. Physical demands of the job include standing for long periods, lifting and carrying items, and working in cooler conditions. Overall, the Deli Clerk plays a vital role in the deli department, contributing to the overall success of the store and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and accurately prepare, package, and label products for sale to customers.
  • Practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
  • Manage inventory by counting and verifying merchandise against invoices and inspecting deliveries for shortages, damages, and quality.
  • Monitor product dates and practice rotation procedures.
  • Prepare and cook all deli hot foods and set up the hot case for presentation.
  • Prepare all cold deli items and ensure cleanliness in coolers, freezers, and preparation areas.
  • Unload incoming shipments and stock them neatly in designated areas without damaging merchandise.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards to achieve team and individual results.
  • Familiarize with department items to accurately answer customer questions.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve store management when necessary.
  • Implement Cosentino's Customer Service Standards and maintain equipment safely and competently.

Requirements

  • Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Complete ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.
  • Basic math and reading skills required for the position.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
