About the position

The Deli Clerk at Festival Foods plays a vital role in providing exceptional guest service and food preparation in a retail grocery store environment. This part-time position focuses on assisting guests, fulfilling orders, maintaining food safety standards, and ensuring quality control of deli products. The Deli Clerk is expected to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, while contributing to a positive dining experience for guests.

Responsibilities

  • Help guests locate items on or off the sales floor and professionally answer the Deli Department telephone.
  • Receive, prepare, and fulfill guest orders and special requests with attention to detail and quality.
  • Address guest concerns and resolve issues promptly using the boomerang principle to ensure a positive experience.
  • Inspect, rotate, maintain proper temperatures, and replenish all deli products on display to ensure high standards.
  • Maintain proper inventory levels in the deli storage, including containers, lids, spoons, tags, and more.
  • Lead by example in maintaining food safety logs and adhering to all safety standards.
  • Ensure all quality standards, including quantity expectations, are met by 10 am and 5 pm daily.
  • Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly assess and resolve issues in a dynamic and stressful work environment, while supporting team members.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety requirements and company safety policies, including proper training on slicers, lifting techniques, trash compactors, and balers.
  • Knowledge of the retail food business, perishable department operations, and merchandising skills, with the ability to make timely and effective decisions.
