About the position

The Deli Cook position at Cosentino's Price Chopper is designed to produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods that meet the high standards of freshness, taste, quality, and presentation. The role is crucial in assisting all aspects of the deli, ensuring that the Deli team consistently delivers the product and service that Cosentino's customers have come to expect. The Deli Cook will work closely with the Deli Manager and will be responsible for maintaining the quality and safety of food preparation in accordance with federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines. This position is non-exempt and part-time, requiring a commitment to ongoing training and development as outlined in the Cosentino's Learning Plan. In this role, the Deli Cook will be expected to develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items in collaboration with the department manager. They will practice appropriate portion control and enforce strict quality control measures for all deli products. The Deli Cook will also provide direct supervision to other kitchen team members, fostering a positive team atmosphere that encourages cooperation, high morale, and recognition for a job well done. Effective communication skills are essential, as the Deli Cook will need to keep team members informed about required resources and ensure that customer service standards are met. The position also involves effective inventory management, ensuring that all food items are rotated properly, and that the deli area is clean and organized. The Deli Cook will be responsible for resolving customer complaints professionally and will promote department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples. Responsibilities

  • Produce, execute, and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Assist in all aspects of the deli to meet customer expectations.
  • Work with the department manager to develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items.
  • Practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
  • Ensure all foods are prepared in accordance with safety, health, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Enforce strict quality control measures for all deli products.
  • Provide direct supervision of kitchen team activities in an effective and respectful manner.
  • Promote a positive team atmosphere with high morale and cooperation.
  • Train, direct, and manage part-time cooks.
  • Utilize clear communication skills to keep team members informed of required resources.
  • Practice effective inventory management and monitor product dates.
  • Be familiar with department items to accurately answer customer questions.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards for team and individual results.
  • Promote department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples.

  • Implement Cosentino's Customer Service Standards.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and completely.
  • Ensure all Deli Programs, including recipes and promotions, are followed and maintained.

Requirements

  • A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.
  • Minimum of one year of previous cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation is required.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a deli or food service production facility is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in cooking, grilling, and frying various foods.
