About the position

The Deli Cook position at Cosentino's Price Chopper involves producing and delivering high-quality prepared foods while ensuring adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines. The role requires collaboration with the Deli Manager and other team members to create menu items and maintain a positive team atmosphere. The Deli Cook is responsible for supervising kitchen activities, training part-time cooks, and providing excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and deliver outstanding prepared foods in freshness, taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Assist in all aspects of the deli to meet customer expectations.
  • Work with the department manager to develop daily, weekly, and seasonal menu items.
  • Practice appropriate portion control in deli production and service.
  • Ensure all foods are prepared in accordance with safety, health, and sanitation guidelines.
  • Enforce strict quality control measures of all deli products.
  • Provide direct supervision of kitchen team activities.
  • Promote a positive team atmosphere with high morale and cooperation.
  • Train, direct, and manage part-time cooks.
  • Utilize clear communication skills to keep team members informed.
  • Practice effective inventory management and monitor product dates.
  • Answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
  • Meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Promote department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples.
  • Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
  • Implement Cosentino's Customer Service Standards.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment safely and completely.
  • Ensure all Deli Programs are followed and maintained.

Requirements

  • A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
  • Completion of ongoing training and development as listed on the Cosentino's Learning Plan.
  • Minimum of one year of previous cooking experience in a deli, bakery, catering, or banquet operation is required.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in deli or food service production facility is required.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local food sanitation guidelines is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
