About the position

The Deli Department Manager is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while ensuring a safe and clean environment that encourages customer loyalty. This role involves achieving sales and profit goals, monitoring quality assurance standards, and supervising all functions within the Deli department. The manager will support daily operations, promote teamwork, and empower associates to deliver excellent customer service in alignment with the company's core values.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment for customers.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals for the Deli department.
  • Monitor and control quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions and activities of the Deli department.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the Deli.
  • Embrace the Customer 1st strategy and encourage associates to deliver excellent service.
  • Communicate company, department, and job-specific information to associates.
  • Collaborate with associates to promote teamwork and achieve goals.
  • Establish performance goals for the department and empower associates to meet targets.
  • Train and develop associates and participate in performance appraisals.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal laws and company guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of products sold and assist customers with inquiries.
  • Slice deli meats and cheeses to customer requests using proper equipment.
  • Offer product samples to customers and inform them of specials.
  • Provide customers with fresh products and correct portion sizes.
  • Recommend deli items to customers based on their needs.
  • Use deli equipment according to company guidelines.
  • Prepare foods according to temperature logs and cooking instructions.
  • Educate associates about current and upcoming promotions.
  • Assist in preparing the store/department budget and financial reviews.
  • Train associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering.
  • Adhere to food safety regulations and maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers.
  • Reinforce safety programs and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Practice preventive maintenance on equipment and report issues.

Requirements

  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.

  • High school education or equivalent preferred.
