About the position

The Delivery and Event Setup Custodian at Phillips Exeter Academy is responsible for providing delivery and setup services for various campus events while also performing regular custodial duties. This role is essential for maintaining the Academy's facilities and ensuring that events are executed smoothly. The custodian will work closely with the Senior Manager of Events and Custodial Services and will be involved in both logistical and cleaning tasks to support the Academy community.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and perform campus deliveries using a box truck with liftgate.
  • Perform event and furniture set-ups as required.
  • Load and unload the truck using a forklift and pallet jack.
  • Check the work order system daily for moving order requests.
  • Identify and report facility condition deficiencies during custodial work.
  • Dust surfaces and clean floors/carpets through sweeping, mopping, and shampooing.
  • Strip, wash, and buff floor areas as needed.
  • Replace light bulbs and clean walls, glass partitions, and windows.
  • Clean toilets, bathrooms, and common areas regularly.
  • Observe building mechanical equipment and report repairs or failures to the supervisor.
  • Use the work order system to report deficiencies and follow up on open orders.
  • Make minor repairs to fixtures and furnishings with simple hand tools.
  • Lock/unlock public buildings as required and remove rubbish from containers.
  • Operate power cleaning equipment such as polishing machines and wet/dry vacuums.
  • Maintain the appearance of entrances by cleaning and shoveling snow as necessary.
  • Requisition and receive supplies for custodial work.
  • Maintain equipment, including changing filters and ensuring cleanliness.
  • Check the work order system for pest control requests and respond accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; Associate's degree preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Previous custodial experience preferred, especially in an institutional or campus setting.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring medium to heavy physical exertion regularly.
