About the position

The Seasonal/Part-time Environmental Monitor position at Ecological Associates, Inc. involves conducting sea turtle nesting surveys along Delray Beach, Florida. The role is primarily field-based, requiring early morning surveys to document nesting activity, monitor nests, and assist with data management. This position is ideal for individuals who can work independently and thrive in outdoor environments, particularly during the nesting season from March to November 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct early morning beach surveys on an ATV.
  • Identify and record the numbers of turtle crawls by species.
  • Obtain GPS readings of all crawls using the Survey123 app.
  • Locate eggs and mark sea turtle nests.
  • Assist with nest relocations.
  • Monitor sea turtle nests to determine nest fates and dates of hatchling emergence.
  • Evaluate hatchling tracks to ensure they reached the ocean.
  • Excavate nests and interpret contents.
  • Respond to and collect data from stranded sea turtles.
  • Enter data in Microsoft Excel and Survey123.
  • Clean and maintain ATVs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One year of related experience required.
  • Experience operating and driving an ATV is preferred.
  • Broad practical experience using GPS instrumentation is preferred.
  • Microsoft Office experience is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous sea turtle monitoring experience.
  • Experience following standard operating procedures in fieldwork.
