About the position

The Demand Planner position at McLane Company Inc. is a critical role responsible for managing the flow of inventory from suppliers into one or more distribution centers. This involves a comprehensive analysis of demand and the management of forecast and purchase orders to ensure that inventory levels meet customer needs while minimizing costs. The Demand Planner will monitor and maintain demand forecasting, analyze historical usage and forecasting reports, and manage promotional sales history to adjust forecasts accordingly. This role requires effective communication with vendors to resolve supply disruptions and to provide feedback on promotional forecasting information. Additionally, the Demand Planner will be responsible for monitoring purchase orders to maximize in-stock levels and minimize inventory exposure, while also coordinating with the transportation group to optimize freight income opportunities. The position demands a proactive approach to managing inventory levels to prevent obsolescence and spoilage, as well as addressing inter-division difficulties such as transfers and quality issues. Performance indicators such as in-stock levels and perfect order performance will be closely monitored and analyzed to ensure operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain demand forecasting.
  • Analyze historical usage and forecasting reports to ensure proper demand data for automated systems.
  • Manage promotion sales history and adjust forecasts to meet customer demand.
  • Provide feedback on promotional forecasting information to Chain Management.
  • Communicate vendor issues and resolve supply disruptions with Buyer/Category Manager.
  • Monitor purchase orders to maximize in-stock levels and minimize inventory exposure.
  • Manage inventory levels to optimize receiving, storage, picking, and loading operations.
  • Maintain inventory levels to minimize obsolescence and spoilage.
  • Coordinate with transportation to optimize backhauls and freight income opportunities.
  • Manage inter-division difficulties such as transfers, allocations, and quality issues.
  • Monitor and analyze performance indicators such as in-stock levels and inventory levels.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in business or related major.
  • Two years of business-related work experience.
  • Purchasing or inventory management background preferred.
  • Management and supervisory experience helpful.
  • Experience from a distributor or wholesale background is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to influence others and work both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to quickly and effectively learn new systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a logistics or supply chain role.
  • Familiarity with automated inventory management systems.
