About the position

The Demand Planner plays a crucial role in managing forecasting activities to ensure maximum service levels for product classes and customer channels. This position is responsible for developing a demand forecast by analyzing various data sources, including sales forecasts, shipment histories, and marketing plans. The Demand Planner must possess robust analytical capabilities to create statistical forecasts and is a key driver in aligning customer demand signals with the supply chain and company resources. This role requires the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with both internal and external supply chain planning partners, making decisions that impact the demand plan and effectively communicating these decisions to stakeholders. In addition to forecasting, the Demand Planner is involved in special projects and business strategy initiatives, requiring a well-rounded individual with strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. The ability to quickly identify deviations from expected results and resolve issues is essential. The Demand Planner must have strong analytical skills to take inputs from multiple systems and adjust the Demand Forecasting system accordingly. Predictive analytics and the selection of appropriate forecasting algorithms are critical components of this role, necessitating high technical capabilities within Demand Forecasting Systems. Furthermore, the Demand Planner must interpret statistical models and tune them as needed to enhance forecasting accuracy. The position also involves developing demand forecasts at various levels of aggregation for multiple time horizons, reviewing historical sales trends, researching demand drivers, and evaluating forecast results. Collaboration with Sales and Marketing is vital to ensure accurate information is used for the demand forecast. The Demand Planner will provide input to the Supply Planning organization regarding inventory requirements for existing items, new products, and product phase-outs. Leading a portion of the Monthly Demand Meeting for responsible product lines is also a key responsibility, requiring the Demand Planner to be perceived as a credible leader by various stakeholders, including Sales, Marketing, Finance, and the Supply Chain Planning team. Staying current on industry trends in Demand Planning and consumer products is essential, as is contributing to the professional development of others within the Demand Planning team and the broader Supply Chain organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop demand forecasts at multiple levels of aggregation for various time horizons.
  • Review historical sales trends and research demand drivers to develop statistical forecast models.
  • Evaluate forecast results and reconcile significant variances with cross-functional teams.
  • Utilize a collaborative approach with Sales and Marketing to ensure accurate information is used for demand forecasting.
  • Provide input to the Supply Planning organization regarding inventory requirements for existing items, new products, and product phase-outs.
  • Lead a portion of the Monthly Demand Meeting for responsible product lines, establishing credibility with stakeholders.
  • Stay current on industry trends in Demand Planning and consumer products.
  • Contribute to the professional development of others within the Demand Planning team.

Requirements

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong familiarity with at least one significant Demand Planning tool (e.g., Demand Solutions, Manugistics, Demantra) and ERP systems functionality.
  • Direct experience in multiple roles at a Consumer Products Company or strong familiarity with other areas.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to present facts/data/information independently to high-level individuals.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills with peers, customers, and management.
  • Comfortable participating in meetings with customers' senior buying teams.
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information and research data effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with forecasting software is preferred.
  • Ability to use statistics and mathematics to create accurate demand plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
