About The Position

The Demographic Research and Planning Analyst II plays a crucial role in supporting the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) by conducting professional-level demographic research and planning. This position involves analyzing student residential and demographic patterns, producing enrollment projections, and conducting attendance boundary studies to optimize the utilization of existing schools and determine the need for new facilities. The analyst will utilize various datasets and collaborate with district administrators and public agencies to ensure effective planning and decision-making in education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, urban planning, statistics, demography, geography, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in research, mapping, or data analysis in education, demography, urban planning, statistics, geography, or economics.
  • Experience in advanced statistics and statistical computer software; advanced mapping concepts and GIS statistical techniques; survey research methods and data field collection techniques; or advanced skills in designing, managing, querying, and programming databases is preferable.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in economics, urban planning, statistics, demography, geography, or a related field (may substitute for up to two years of required experience).
  • Knowledge of quantitative methods, including statistics.
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and related software such as ArcGIS.
  • Understanding of principles of research, data analysis, and graphic presentations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze student residential and demographic patterns.
  • Participate in the production of District-wide and sub-area student enrollment projections.
  • Conduct attendance boundary studies.
  • Perform demographic and statistical analyses using special datasets, student records, census and birth data, and other demographic data.
  • Generate reports, charts, graphs, and diagrams to summarize and present data.
  • Prepare residential patterns and assist in managing and developing databases.
  • Conduct demographic studies involving projections of enrollment fluctuations at schools.
  • Analyze proposals for attendance zone changes and school construction projects.
  • Participate in field surveys to determine demographic and geographic student population distributions.
  • Represent the department at meetings with District administrators, schools, and public agencies.
  • Produce maps depicting school locations, boundaries, and other features.
  • Respond to inquiries related to demographic and geographic issues.
