About the position

The Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of dentists in delivering quality oral health care. This position involves providing direct patient care across various dental specialties, assisting with procedures, and ensuring a smooth patient experience from preparation to post-treatment. The Dental Assistant is integral to the dental care team, responsible for both clinical and administrative tasks to support the overall operation of the dental practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for dental procedures and ensure their comfort before, during, and after treatment.
  • Maintain proper patient flow management in the clinic.
  • Set up instrument trays and prepare materials for dental procedures.
  • Assist the dentist during various dental procedures.
  • Take and expose dental diagnostic x-rays, ensuring proper care and guidelines are followed.
  • Record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients accurately.
  • Chart existing and proposed treatments in Patient Management Software.
  • Provide preoperative explanations and postoperative instructions as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Record treatment information in patient records accurately.
  • Fabricate temporary restorations or custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations.
  • Pour, trim, and polish study casts and prepare whitening trays.
  • Apply protective fluoride coatings to patients' teeth.
  • Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
  • Dismiss patients with proper hand-offs to other departments.
  • Sterilize or disinfect instruments and operatories as required.
  • Conduct dental supply inventory and order supplies as designated Clinical Inventory Administrator.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and health regulations as designated Compliance and Safety Officer.

Requirements

  • Completion of Dental Assisting Program or a minimum of one year experience as a Dental Assistant.
  • Current Dental Assisting Permit required.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • X-Ray Certification required to serve chairside.
  • Proficient in using Eaglesoft and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of CDT codes and passing the Dental Depot CDT test within 20 days of employment.
  • Experience with a variety of dental procedures including amalgam and composite fillings, extractions, and root canal treatments.
