About the position

The position is for a Dental Officer in the Federal service, specifically under the Dental Officer Series 0680. To qualify, applicants must demonstrate sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in each position held, including the total number of hours worked per week. A positive education requirement is in place, necessitating the submission of transcripts or a detailed education history on the resume. Official transcripts will be required after tentative selection and prior to an official job offer. Basic requirements include having a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution. Applicants who are nearing completion of their degree may be tentatively qualified if they provide appropriate documentation. Licensure is also required, including passing the National Board of Dental Surgery and holding a current, unrestricted license to practice dentistry. Medical requirements include the ability to distinguish shades of color. Applicants meeting these basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level. For those seeking GS-12 level consideration, additional qualifications include completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry or equivalent experience. Time-In-Grade requirements apply for federal employees in the competitive service, but do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
