About the position

The position is for a Dental Officer in the Federal service, specifically under the Dental Officer Series 0680. To qualify, applicants must provide a resume that details sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. This includes both paid and unpaid experience, such as volunteer work through National Service programs. Applicants must clearly identify their duties and responsibilities in each position held, including the total number of hours worked per week. For those seeking GS-12 level consideration, additional qualifications include completion of a 2-year residency program in dentistry or equivalent experience. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of oral diseases and disorders. Examples of relevant experience include performing dental procedures such as fillings, extractions, and administering anesthesia. Federal employees must also meet Time-In-Grade requirements for merit promotion candidates.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area.
• Perform dental procedures including the removal of decay, filling cavities, and treating gum diseases.
• Administer anesthetics and write prescriptions as necessary.
• Make measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth.
• Perform corrective surgery and other dental treatments as required.

Requirements

• Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from an accredited institution.
• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a relevant jurisdiction.
• Passed the National Board of Dental Surgery (NBDE).
• Ability to distinguish shades of color.
