About the position

The Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency of dental care delivery by assisting dentists in various procedures and ensuring a smooth patient experience. This position involves direct patient care across multiple dental specialties, including orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and oral surgery. The Dental Assistant is responsible for preparing patients for treatment, managing equipment, and maintaining a sterile environment, all while adhering to safety and compliance standards.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for dental procedures and ensure their comfort before, during, and after treatment.
  • Maintain proper patient flow management in the dental office.
  • Set up instrument trays and prepare materials for dental procedures.
  • Assist the dentist during various dental procedures.
  • Take and expose dental diagnostic x-rays, ensuring proper care of x-ray sensors.
  • Record medical and dental histories and vital signs of patients.
  • Chart existing and proposed treatments in Patient Management Software.
  • Provide preoperative explanations and postoperative instructions as prescribed by the dentist.
  • Record treatment information in patient records accurately.
  • Fabricate temporary restorations and custom impressions from preliminary impressions.
  • Make preliminary impressions for study casts and occlusal registrations.
  • Pour, trim, and polish study casts and prepare whitening trays.
  • Clean and polish removable appliances and apply fluoride coatings to teeth.
  • Educate patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
  • Dismiss patients with proper hand-offs to other departments.
  • Sterilize or disinfect instruments and operatories as required.
  • Conduct dental supply inventory and order supplies as designated Clinical Inventory Administrator.
  • Maintain compliance with safety policies and procedures, including conducting spore testing for autoclaves and maintaining clinical guides and first aid kits.

Requirements

  • Completion of Dental Assisting Program or a minimum of one year experience as a Dental Assistant.
  • Current Dental Assisting Permit required.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • X-Ray Certification required to serve chairside.
  • Valid driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of CDT codes and passing the Dental Depot CDT test within 20 days of employment.
  • Experience with Eaglesoft and Microsoft Office Suite.
