About the position

This position is located in the 30th Medical Group at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Santa Barbara, California. The work involves full assistance in a range of dental procedures and treatments. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Responsibilities

• Assist chairside in the delivery of dental treatments to include assisting in general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
• Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra-oral radiographs.
• Arrange equipment, instruments, and materials, for easy access by Dentist.
• Instruct patients on oral hygiene, care of prosthodontic appliances, post-treatment care and causes of dental disease.
• Conduct clerical duties to maintain, review, update, and assemble dental health records.
• Maintain dental equipment and instruments in a clean and operable condition.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Radiology Certification as per Public Law 97-35.
• One year of specialized experience assisting a dental specialist with intra-oral procedures and operating dental x-ray equipment.
• Successful completion of a full four-year course of study in a dental assistant or dental hygiene program that included at least 24 semester hours of courses in radiation physics, radiation biology, and related subjects.
• Ability to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a military or government dental setting.
• Additional certifications in dental assisting or hygiene.
