About the position

The Dental Assistant at Union Community Care plays a crucial role in supporting dentists in providing comprehensive dental care to patients. This position involves not only assisting in clinical procedures but also maintaining a clean and compliant dental environment, ensuring patient comfort, and managing dental equipment and supplies. The Dental Assistant is integral to the patient experience and the overall efficiency of the dental practice.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and prepares patients for treatment by the dentist.
  • Helps patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
  • Takes prescribed radiographs (x-rays) for the dentists.
  • Reviews and updates health and dental histories with patients.
  • Takes patients' blood pressure.
  • Makes notes in the dental chart when necessary.
  • Prepares operatory for procedures to be performed.
  • Assists dentist in performing four-handed dentistry following established policies and protocols.
  • Gives necessary post-op instructions or home care instructions after procedures.
  • Completes the patient visit by taking them to the check-out desk.
  • Removes all disposable barriers and instruments after every visit.
  • Uses proper pre-cleaning and disinfecting procedures to disinfect all surfaces and supplies.
  • Replaces all barriers in operatory and sets up instruments for the next patient.
  • Maintains dental equipment and informs Dental PM about necessary repairs.
  • Ensures dental supplies are stocked in proper areas.
  • Cleans and sterilizes dental equipment after every patient visit.
  • Maintains sterilization equipment.
  • Stocks and pulls tags for dental orders and gives supply tags to the Dental PM.
  • Maintains dental radiograph sensors and machine.
  • Pours impressions and tracks dental laboratory cases.
  • Participates in meetings, seminars, or training sessions as directed.
  • Assists as an interpreter for dental providers as needed.
  • Assists front desk in times of under-staffing.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Dental Assistant Certification
  • Pennsylvania Dental Radiology Certification (recertified every four years)
  • CPR Certified (recertified every two years)
  • Child Abuse Clearance (re-checked every two years)
  • Knowledge and familiarity with dental and medical terminology
  • Knowledge and use of dental software
  • English proficiency required
