About the position

The Dental Patient Services Specialist (DPSS) at MyCHN is dedicated to providing high-quality customer service in a healthcare setting, ensuring that all patients receive care without prejudice. The role involves interacting with patients, their families, and community partners to facilitate patient scheduling, registration, and overall patient flow while adhering to the Center's mission and values of transparency, empathy, quality, and value.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level customer service to patients and their families.
  • Ensure courteous and timely telephone service, patient scheduling, registration, and check-in/check-out processes.
  • Document all communication with callers and route messages appropriately.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to policies regarding protected health information (PHI).
  • Assist in resolving minor patient concerns and route higher concerns to management.
  • Maintain knowledge of the OpenEMR EHR system for patient registration and chart preparation.
  • Confirm and prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
  • Interview patients to obtain demographic information and update patient records as needed.
  • Triage telephone calls and distinguish between dental emergencies and routine care.
  • Schedule appointments for dental providers and monitor cancellations.
  • Review patient accounts and ensure all necessary documents are present before appointments.
  • Maintain the physical condition of the waiting area and patient bathroom.
  • Prepare new patient forms and assist patients in completing medical history forms.
  • Collect co-payments and inform patients about their financial responsibilities before appointments.
  • Perform end-of-day processing and reconcile cash drawer with reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of customer service experience, preferably in a medical or dental facility.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Working knowledge of EHR systems and computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse populations.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with third-party payer systems such as Medicare and Medicaid.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
