About the position

Cherry Health, Michigan's largest Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), is seeking a Dental Hygienist to join our team. We operate in six counties across the state and are based in Grand Rapids. Our mission is to improve the health and wellness of individuals by providing comprehensive primary and behavioral health care while encouraging access for those who are underserved. As a Dental Hygienist, you will play a crucial role in delivering quality dental care to our patients, focusing on removing barriers and expanding access to services.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and polish teeth, remove calculus deposits, and stains from teeth and beneath gums, applies topical fluoride treatments
  • Chart existing conditions in the mouth including possible areas of dental decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by dentist
  • Apply pit and fissure sealants as approved by dentist
  • Expose and develop x-ray film for use by dentist
  • Educate patients in proper oral hygiene techniques for plaque removal
  • Record information in charts and initiate ongoing patient recall system for maintenance of teeth
  • Assist dentist as directed.

Requirements

  • Degree from an accredited school of dental hygiene and license from state of Michigan to practice dental hygiene required
  • One year experience working in a dental practice preferred
  • Basic Life Support/CPR training according to requirements of license and/or certification
  • Ability to perform routine dental laboratory and dental patient care tasks
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers, public and patients
  • Tact and similar qualities necessary in meeting and dealing effectively with others, in person and on the telephone
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to identify and maintain agency and client confidential information
  • Ability to work with patients and staff of other cultures.
